If you did not know, the US is about to welcome its first African American President in its history, Barack Obama!
Well how could you not know… the whole world knows, unless you live in a hole in some austere surroundings where there are no people or access to news or radio. Everybody knows!
Its a celebration!
It is really exciting times across the whole world and especially America. I am so glad to witness history and feel a sense of hope and pride. The people have spoken and elected their leader.
Obama represents a new generation of new thoughts and creative ideas. He is embracing web 2.0 to share information using popular social media tools such as twitter and youtube for his weekly address.
Obama has been so popular, that he was the top search topic in 2008 on 123people and the main search engines.
In short he is one cool dude. I will be heading to the nations’ capital Washington D.C. on Jan 20th with millions of others across the nation to be a part of history, as the new President is sworn in.
To a new beginning…hip hop hooray!

Between current economic conditions and the technological evolution of the Internet, the traditional approach most job seekers have taken in the past is no longer viable.
The new approach is far different. It boils down to the fact that there are fewer jobs available, more competition for those jobs and more touch points for recruiters and seekers to interact.
Social networks are starting to become part of the criteria that both hiring managers and college admissions officers are using to weed out applicants. One in Five hiring managers conduct background checks using social networks (primarily Facebook), while one in ten college admissions officers do the same.
It’s time for you to be open-minded and think differently about how you’re going to get your next job and keep it. Conduct a People Search instead of a Job Search using 123people. You can target your search to company execs and hiring managers of companies you want to work for, track current employees and find out more about what else they do. With the contact details such as; email address, facebook, linkedIn and twitter profiles provided you can reach out and network connecting on a personal level.
Many studies have noted that 80% of jobs are taken through networking, but few have sought to use the web to search and locate people they would actually enjoy working for at companies that they get excited about.

The New Year is here and the people at 123 people are making some resolutions for 2009.
Russell CEO of 123people ‘in 2009 we are going to continue our strong growth in Europe and the United States and push forward with bringing people search closer to home with more local partners, faster searches, and more local languages. More than 2 million people visited our site since our launch in October 2008 and we are expecting more than 10 million by the summer of 2009. Against the trend of charging for people searches, 123people will stay free and advertising supported.’
